In Lieu of Flowers

1-1
It feels very sad and disconsolate when someone passes away. The deceased family is in lots of grief and many people visit the funeral or at their home to show sympathy, love and care. Many times, the deceased family request their relatives and friends not to bring flowers in the funeral and instead if they want to contribute then they can bestow money to some charity trust or some hospital. This request is made by some families because almost after every funeral all the beautiful flowers are abandoned and becomes a waste. This is not good as the flowers are not allowed to die on their own and as soon as the funeral is over the flowers are put in garbage because many people does not like funeral flowers to take with them at their homes.

So because of these reasons many people think that instead of wasting and putting these beautiful flowers in trash, it is better to make some use of the money. If the request is not made to give the money to any charity then some people transfer the funeral flowers to hospitals or poor people.

There are lots of ill and old people who also need love and care but their relatives being poor cannot buy flowers for them. Funeral flowers can be used for this good deed. There are many nursing homes where elder people are treated and if these people are gifted with these flowers they love to receive flowers which show that they are alone. In hospitals, many poor people do not get gifts and flowers; if these flowers are given to them then they feel there is some hope of getting well. Apart from nursing home and hospitals, cancer and HIV positive children’s who are treated in shelters too need love and care. Not many people visit these children’s and if these flowers are given to these children’s they feel happy and befriended.

When a family makes the request to give the money of buying flowers to some charity, it is not appropriate to take flowers with you in the funeral. But still you can carry a single flower with you who will express your feelings of care and understanding towards the deceased family.
